Bicycle carriers or bicycle racks are devices mainly used to carry bicycles safely and securely during long periods of transportation. Bike carriers may be attached to different types of land transportation vehicles such as buses, automobile cars, pickup trucks and motorcycles. This can be done simply by clamping the posterior wheel and the front dropout (the hole in the bike frame where the axel is attached).

The process will involve disconnecting the front wheel. The front wheel can be secured on the separate available blades. A different approach to provide additional vertical support is through clamping of the top tube which may be performed in the case of using back hitch mounted carriers.

Right now, a lot of bike carriers have been created more for pickup trucks that provide easier transporting solutions. Manufacturers have also developed special carriers for the recumbent and tandem bicycles.
