What Sort of Toddler Bike Should You Buy?

A tricycle: A tricycle has been around for ages. Basically, it’s a bicycle with three wheels. One in the front and two at the back. The additional wheel at the back makes it easy for your kids to balance on the bicycle, without exerting any pressure on them. Basically, put your kid on the tricycle and watch them pedal away with joy. The only problem about this sort of toddler bike is the fact that you are creating a dependency on that third wheel. Instead of teaching them balance and motor-skills, you’re just enabling them to play without extra development (like giving them crutches).

A Normal Bike: Unfortunately, even the smallest models of a normal bike are difficult for toddlers to get a grasp of, mainly due to their weight. It is recommended that these bikes are not used until the age of five and are only for children who have had previous experience on other bikes (i.e. a tricycle or PreBike)

A PreBike: A PreBike is a bike without pedals. While this concept isn’t wholly unique, it has only been really developed and manufactured recently to such a point that you can’t ignore them anymore. The bikes are specifically made to suit the ages between one and five years. They also have adjustable seats (so you can use it for any kid between those ages). They have puncture proof tyres, which mean no crocodile tears when your kids find out they can’t use them. There is an integrated foot rest that supports your toddler’s feet allowing them to glide comfortably. With all of these fantastic features, a PreBike can promise to help develop your toddler more quickly then you expected. Expect their confidence to increase because of their sudden development in motor-skills and balance. Children that have been using a Prebike are known to move onto a bigger bike (with pedals, no training wheels) much quicker than other children.

When it comes to selecting a toddler bike, it is seriously suggested you go for a PreBike. It is not only a fun toy that your kids can enjoy, but you will know that by providing that toy they’ll be developing many important aspects integral to your child’s life.
