Schwinn Airdyne Evolution — Superior To Other Dual Action Bikes?

The older Scwhinn Airdyne has a few weaknesses, the evolutionary Schwinn Airdyne Evolution Comp bike is built to address those few areas. Of course, whatever weaknesses remain in a nearly thirty year old design will be found out and exposed to public attention by the many users, of which there are many for the AirDynes, new and old. Anything can be made better of course and the Airdynes are not an exception. Now the older model was not replaced by the Evo. Instead, the new version was introduced as another model instead. That’s probably a good move on their part since the original machine has such a positive reputation. Here’s how the Evo is different and what it offers.

The difference is blowing in the wind. It’s the breeze… and the disquiet… the fan resistance on the bikes means pedaling and pumping turns the fan and the faster the better. Load increases with faster pedaling and it’s as simple as that. That’s the main working part of the machine and why it works as it does. You just simply get lots of wind and noise from the turning of the fan. In the case of the original Airdyne version, the fan is big and creates a real gale type wind with all the resulting commotion and noise as well. It fairly well drowns out any other sounds in the immediate vicinity. That could be good or it could be bad.

The Evo differs in the fan and drives as well. You get a smaller fan and a belt instead of a chain drive. That means less wind noise and the wind is not so close to the rider either. Plus, the reduced mechanical racker from driving with a belt rather than a chain makes for less mechanical distraction as well. Plus, the two changes in combination makes for a physically smaller machine, easier to move and store.

That makes for a less noisy bike that not as breezy. That’s mostly a positive set of changes. There’s less breeze on the rider as well. Now a breeze is not all bad, but the old Airdyne can generate gale force winds. That’s not good.

The Evolution Comp features the same ruggged and simple design with the same type fan resistance. you get the ride with less racket and less wind in your face. This is worth a look if you’re in the market for a rugged exercise bike that will probably work for as long as you want to pedal an exercise bike. Either of the Airdyne models is noted for really lasting and performing well to provide a balanced workout. The bikes have many times been found in gyms and clubs since they will stand up to the hardest of use and cause little if any maintenance trouble for a long life. If you want a balanced workout in a bike that’s interesting to ride and durable as well, the Airdyne of the classic version or the Evolution Comp are worth a look.
